Titans Owner Defends Club's Transparency Amidst Coaching Accusations
In a heated exchange on live radio, Gold Coast Titans co-owner Bec Frizelle defended the club's integrity against accusations from Broncos legend Corey Parker. Parker had alleged that the Titans blindsided new head coach Josh Hannay by including a clause in his contract that would demote him to an assistant coach position if the club secured Craig Bellamy as its head coach. Frizelle vehemently denied these claims, emphasizing the Titans' commitment to transparency and honesty.
Frizelle, appearing on SEN Radio, addressed Parker directly, stating, 'Corey, I want to set the record straight. We would never operate dishonestly or lack transparency with our incoming coach. We are straight shooters and will always be transparent. We would never treat anyone poorly.' She further clarified that the Titans had been open and honest with both Hannay and Bellamy throughout the process.
Parker, however, maintained that Hannay was indeed blindsided by the potential clause, suggesting that he was unaware of the contract's details. He added, 'Hannay, while on holiday, expressed his lack of knowledge about the contract clause. We believe Josh Hannay was unaware of the alleged signing of Craig Bellamy, and we haven't heard from the Titans. If the reports are true, Hannay will return to a media storm, and the Titans need to address this openly.'
Despite the initial uncertainty, the Titans eventually reconfirmed their commitment to Hannay and their pursuit of Bellamy. Frizelle expressed confidence in the team's current setup, downplaying concerns about the Perth Bears' interest in Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, a superstar forward with a clause allowing him to explore the open market. She stated, 'I'm not overly worried about the Perth Bears, and if we do lose players to them, I wish them luck.'
